I Touched Him

by Bruce A. Huff

I poured out my life's blood for many a year.

Physicians only added to my pain and fear.

I spent all I had to be free of this curse,

Yet all it did was empty my purse.

Time only proved to increase my desperation.

There seemed to be no hope or salvation.

Then I heard of a Healer born in Bethlehem,

Something in my spirit said "Just touch Him."

So the healer came to our town to teach,

I knew my salvation was just within reach.

The crowd pressed close to Him drawn by His love,

But I couldn't get near Him tho' I pushed and shoved.

Again I felt hopelessness and utter despair.

I cried in my heart "This just isn't fair!"

Floating o'er the crowd I heard His gentle voice,

I knew in my heart I'd made the right choice.

Hope's flames rekindled tho' flickering and dim

I knew I'd be healed if I could just touch Him.

Desperate for healing in body and soul,
I determined to reach Him no matter the toll.
I gathered my strength and began to press forward,
Drawn on by the power I sensed in His words.
Then through a gap in the crowd gathered 'round,
His cloak caught my eyes where the hem touched the ground.
I reached down toward it through the deafening din.
My hand touched His cloak, my faith touched Him.

He cried "Who touched me?" as the healing poured out,
"It was I!" I whispered but wanted to shout.
With eyes filled with love meant only for me,
He said "Faith healed you and set your soul free!
Your sins are forgiven, a new life begin!"
All because I simply touched Him.
